Hydrocephalus Shunt Systems from HpBio now distributed by Spiegelberg

For over a decade HpBio has been manufacturing Hydrocephalus Shunt Systems. HpBio and Spiegelberg have now joined forces and Spiegelberg has taken on the distribution of HpBio’s Hydrocephalus Shunt Systems in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, as well as other markets in and outside Europe.

The recent fixed-pressure valve model, Sphera Duo, is available in adult, infantile, and neonatal sizes. The Sphera Duo Valve is made of transparent medical grade silicone and transparent polysulfone input and output connectors encasing the pressure control mechanism comprised by a synthetic ruby ball and conic seat, and 316L stainless steel spring. All sizes are supplied in four pressure ranges: High, Medium, Low and Extra-Low.

The adult and infantile sizes design presents low profile of implant and flexible body with anatomical shape to contour the curvature of the cranium. The valves have pumpable central reservoir with needle guard that protects against perforations on punctioning or sampling procedures.

The Neonatal size has no pumping chamber, as the design prioritizes low profile and minimum implant volume. The system can be combined to a reservoir connected to the ventricular catheter to enable puncturing and CSF sampling. Also available is the Sphera Adult model with Anti-siphon system, designed to maintain stable cerebral intraventricular pressure regardless the position of the patient, reducing the occurrence of overdrainage.

All shunt valves are individually multi-tested for flow rate and pressure, assuring its quality and functionality. Neither the valve or any item of the shunt system has any component which can cause interferences in CT scan or Magnetic Resonance imaging, and the shunt flow characteristics are not affected either by these exams HpBio has a complete line of ventricular, peritoneal, and atrial catheters, along with connectors and reservoirs to attend all needs in implantable cerebral shunts.
